What a church holiday today
The Orthodox Church on December 22 honors the memory of St. Anna, who is the mother of the Mother of God. Our ancestors considered Anna to be the patroness of pregnant women. Other names for the holiday are “Anna Dark”, “Anna Winter”.
What cannot be done today
Anna is the patroness of many women’s professions, so on this day you cannot do laundry, sewing, embroidery, cleaning. Pregnant women should not meet with sick people – a child may be born unhealthy. Still women in a position cannot do hard physical work – this can harm the health of the child.
