Prime Minister Denis Shmyhal did not give a direct answer whether Ukraine will fulfill its obligations to the IMF regarding market gas prices for the population from May 2022.
The host of the Freedom of Speech program on the ICTV channel asked him what the gas price would be from May 2022 in connection with these obligations, and whether it would not reach more than UAH 50 thousand per thousand cubic meters, as it is now in Europe.
Shmigal said that even now the population pays “the fixed annual market price for gas” at UAH 8 per cubic meter, which was set by the NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine.
“The task of the government is to protect Ukrainian citizens, to ensure clarity and predictability of prices. Ukraine already lives in a market economy, and today the price of gas for the population is the annual and market price. gas on world markets, on how much of its own production. This will form the annual price. The government will never insult the unprotected layers and Ukrainians in general in terms of gas prices, “the Prime Minister assured.
