Catholic and Orthodox Christmas – what’s the difference?
First of all, you need to understand that the date of the two holidays does not coincide – Orthodox celebrate the birth of Christ January 6-7, a Catholics – December 24-25… This is because the chronology of the believers of the Western and Eastern rites is different.
There is also a difference in perception – for Catholics, Christmas is the most important holiday of the year, and for Orthodox Christians, Easter. The fast that precedes the holiday is stricter among the Orthodox than among the Catholics. Nevertheless, both those and other believers observe the rules of Advent – the month when you need to prepare both soul and body for celebration.
