Several more of the biggest names in the tech world have given up their physical presence at CES 2022 in Las Vegas. AMD, MSI and OnePlus have withdrawn from the stand at the technology event. Although details are lacking, the American media attributes this decision to the “rise” of the latest version of the coronavirus – Omicron.
AMD will replace its personal presentations with virtual ones in the “best interest” of everyone’s health, the company said in a statement, citing Engadget. The company was ready to launch its products for 2022 by live broadcast on January 4.
Smartphone maker OnePlus has said it will unveil its new flagship OnePlus 10 Pro in January, but this is expected to happen at CES 2022.
Taiwanese company MSI has also canceled its plans to attend the show in person. Fans of the brand will have to either watch the “Gameverse” event on January 4, or visit its virtual exhibition between January 5 and January 8.
The three companies are another name that is refusing to physically participate in the consumer electronics show in Las Vegas. Earlier, similar decisions were made by Amazon, AT&T, GM, Google, Intel, Lenovo, Meta, Microsoft and T-Mobile.
Other IT companies have already focused on their virtual presentations, such as Nvidia. Traditionally, big participants in the show such as LG, Samsung and Sony have not yet given up physically attending CES.
The organizer of CES, the Consumer Technology Association, is still planning a face-to-face event and believes health and safety measures are sufficient to protect participants. The association is probably not happy with the decisions of the big brands, which will not be physically present, but still pointed out that as of December 23 there are more new registrations than “departures”.
However, the withdrawal of so many big names from the exhibition is depressing, because along with the announcements of new products, such companies provide the “spectacle” of the exhibition – attractive presentations, amazing demonstrations of new products and visions for future products. appeared on the market after a few years.
