A total of over 10 million electronic prescriptions have been issued through the National Health Information System (NHIS) in less than 11 months since commissioning the centralized online system for prescribing and dispensing medicinal products, reported by systemic information service integrator AD.
“The data show that the E-prescription module has become one of the most used electronic services in the country as a whole,” said Ivaylo Filipov, executive director of Information Services. The electronicization of the process has significantly reduced the risk of improper dispensing of medicines and relieved patients, general practitioners and pharmacies.
The total number of doctors who have issued an electronic prescription is over 4,800, and 3,550 pharmacies from all over the country have successfully connected to the system. Nearly 3,600 pharmacists successfully administer electronically prescribed medications to patients.
“Through the electronic prescription and the other modules of the National Health Insurance Fund, which we have implemented, the start of e-health in Bulgaria was given,” said Filipov.
Estimates show that in less than 11 months the NHIF subsystem has covered more medical personnel than previously set in the project. The most recipes are in Sofia – nearly 1.3 million, followed by Plovdiv, Varna, Stara Zagora and Pleven. To date, more than 30 general practitioner software developers and 15 pharmacy software companies have integrated with the system.
The e-mail module also reports impressive results. Through the national health information system over 220,000 e-destinations have been issued. There are over 3,300 general practitioners working with the system.
Information service was launched as part of the NHIF and the electronic medical file of the patient. The module allows for recording and storage of electronic health records and medical data for each patient, such as general health information, data from examinations, therapies, interventions, outpatient sheets, prescription forms, laboratory tests, referrals and more.
An e-immunization module has also been developed, which contains information on all vaccines given against Covid-19. A few days ago the company implemented a system for electronic examinations, which allows for the issuance of outpatient lists in electronic format and complete electronic documentation and storage of all medical examinations.
