In the Zhytomyr region, two cases of the Omicron coronavirus strain were found in women who arrived from Italy.
It is reported by Zhytomyr Regional Laboratory Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
It is noted that on December 30, the virological laboratory of the said center confirmed two cases of infection in Zhitomir and Berdichev with the SARS-CoV-2 Omicron strain by identifying mutations that are characteristic of this strain.
“In order to confirm the results obtained, the biomaterial will be sent to the virological reference laboratory of the Center for Public Health for full genome sequencing,” the message says.

Specialists are conducting an epidemiological investigation of these cases.
As UNIAN reported earlier, on December 29, Deputy Minister of Health – Chief State Sanitary Doctor Igor Kuzin said that 6 cases of infection with a new strain of Omicron coronavirus disease have already been recorded in Ukraine.
