Disruptions in the supply of Turkish cucumber this week led to a noticeable reduction in the volume of these products on the Ukrainian market. In addition, the approaching New Year’s holidays played a role in the skyrocketing prices for both local and imported cucumber.
According to key market players, since the beginning of the week, the demand in this segment has simply been agiotage, writes EastFruit.
The price for a local greenhouse cucumber is currently 60-70 UAH / kg ($ 2.21-2.57 / kg), which is on average 22% more expensive than at the end of last week. At the same time, only a few Ukrainian factories are currently selling these products. And almost the entire volume of local cucumber is shipped to retail chains.

Most of the Ukrainian factories have already completed the sales season, and supplies from the external market, in particular from Turkey, are rather unstable. So, today the price of imported cucumber starts at UAH 50 / kg ($ 1.84 / kg), which is on average 33% more expensive than a week earlier.
Note that today the price of a greenhouse cucumber in Ukraine actually corresponds to the price level of the last year. At the same time, traders do not exclude that the upward price trend in this segment will continue throughout all the holidays, since the supply of greenhouse cucumbers from Turkey does not fully cover the current demand in this segment.
We will remind, earlier UNIAN wrote that in Ukraine on the eve of New Year’s holidays the prices for tomatoes have jumped.
