The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported on preliminary data from the investigation of the tragedy that occurred on December 28 in the Kosovar hospital (Ivano-Frankivsk region).
As the message says GSChS, the cause of the tragedy was a gross violation of fire safety rules.

“There is already preliminary data on the investigation of the tragedy in the Ivano-Frankivsk hospital … Unfortunately, despite the fact that the circumstances of such resonant fires differ, the reason is almost always the same: a gross violation of fire safety rules. his ignorance of the elementary laws of physics and disregard for safety rules led to irreparable losses, “the State Emergency Service notes.
It is reported that 5 oxygen concentrators were operating simultaneously in the intensive care unit, which created conditions for the oversaturation of the air with oxygen. According to preliminary data, from the contact of an open fire with oversaturated oxygen air, medical equipment, tissue and other items instantly caught fire in the intensive care unit.
“In such conditions, the rapid spread of the fire could not be avoided,” – emphasize in the State Emergency Service.
“For such a terrible mistake, both people and the state had to pay a very high price – three people died. Now doctors are fighting for the lives of those who were injured, and the State Emergency Service will conduct urgent checks of hospitals for the state of fire safety,” the message says.
Rescuers urged the heads of medical institutions to strictly prohibit the use of open fire in intensive care units and near oxygen equipment.
Fatal fire in a hospital in Frankivsk region
As UNIAN reported earlier, in the evening of December 28 in Ivano-Frankivsk region, a fire broke out in the intensive care unit of the Kosovo central regional hospital.
The State Emergencies Service previously reported that a fire in the hospital could have occurred due to neglect of fire safety rules by an employee of a medical facility. The fire could have been caused by a memorial candle for a patient who died from COVID-19.
Criminal proceedings have begun on the fact of violation of the fire or technogenic safety requirements established by the legislation, as a result of which people died and suffered (part 2 of article 270 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
