Terminally ill patients, as well as those who suffer from diseases that cause irreparable serious harm to health, will be able to ask for help in leaving life.

In Austria, a law has come into force allowing euthanasia. The procedure is available to terminally ill patients who want to die.
As reported BBCThe country’s parliament legalized euthanasia in December after a constitutional court ruled the outright ban “violates people’s right to express their will.”
Terminally ill people, as well as those who suffer from diseases that cause irreparable serious harm to health, will be able to ask the authorities for help in voluntary withdrawal from life. They will need to provide confirmation of the diagnosis and prove their ability to make their own decisions.

After medical approval, patients will have 12 weeks (or 2 weeks if they are terminally ill) to reflect on their decision one last time. Then they will be able to make an official statement to lawyers or notaries and purchase a special tool in special pharmacies, the names of which will only be known to these lawyers and notaries.
Euthanasia for minors and people with mental illness is prohibited.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Switzerland had previously recognized euthanasia in a suicide capsule as legal.
And in March 2021, euthanasia was legalized in Spain.
