August 28 marks one of the largest Christian holidays – the day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
An important Orthodox holiday, the day of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary 2022, comes immediately after the believers finish observing the Assumption fast. Starting from August 28, it is allowed to play weddings and hold a wedding ceremony. The essence of the holiday is to honor the memory of the mother of Jesus Christ, remembering her “peaceful death” – this is precisely the meaning of the word “assumption”.

It is believed that it is on the Dormition that the Mother of God hears everyone who turns to her sincerely, helping all those who suffer. You can pray at the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos for your health and loved ones, for well-being in the family, for protection from enemies, for the healing of diseases, for material well-being.
The Mother of God gives strength to every lost soul and helps to find the true path. It is useful to pray not only in the temple, but also at home, in the circle of close and dear people. Then this prayer will be for the common good.

On this day, there are many prayers with which the Orthodox turn to the Mother of God, but only two prevail among them:
Prayer for Protection
Soften our hearts, Holy Mother of God. Let all our misfortunes burn in the fire, and let the tightness in the soul leave our hearts. We look at your face, sharing your sufferings and trust in mercy. We will be horrified by Your fate, but we will rejoice in Your strength and strength of spirit. Forgive our cruelty, only in Your power to pacify it. O Great Lady, lift up our prayers to the Lord and pray for us before Him our sinful deeds. Deliver us from sudden death and all evil. Illuminate our mind and lead us to salvation. We trust in hope in the name of the Kingdom of Heaven in the hands of the Lord, Jesus Christ and his Holy Spirit. Amen.
Prayer for help
We sing to Your mercy, O Most Holy Mother of God! Do not turn away from our prayers, but deliver us from troubles and misfortunes. The only Reading and Blessed Mother of God Save us! You, the long-suffering Mother of God, exceeding in faith and suffering all those living on earth. Hear and do not leave us in difficult moments, save us under the cover of Your mercy and compassion. Only near You do we find refuge and warm intercession in the darkness of hell. Only you have permission to turn to Your Son and beg him for our salvation and passage to the Kingdom of Heaven, where we will sing and praise Your Son, His Father and You, the Lady of the world forever and ever. Amen.
Already during her lifetime, Mary turned to the Lord for everyone who needed help. Before the Ascension took place, the Mother of God lived on earth. Therefore, she is well aware of all the hardships and lawsuits of mortal people. And every sinful deed echoes in her heart with suffering, and everyone who seeks help will find her in the holy face of the Most Holy Theotokos.
