War in Ukraine and oil embargo:
On June 3, the European Council decided to impose a sixth round of sanctions against Russia and Belarus, which should further limit the Kremlin’s ability to finance the war in Ukraine.
According to the head of the Office of the President Andriy Yermak, the final approval of the sanctions package means that the EU countries will refuse to import Russian oil for 6 months, from importing oil products – for 8 months, such a refusal also applies to shipping by sea.
According to Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba, over time, the European Union’s oil embargo will create a hole in the Russian budget for tens of billions of dollars.
On June 6, 2022, journalists from The Independent pointed to a big hole in the Russian oil embargo.
