How to clean the washbasin at home so as not to wait for the water to drain – find out at UNIAN.
Unfortunately, clogged sinks are a common occurrence faced by many people. In such a situation, sometimes even a plunger does not help, and chemical agents are far from always effective. UNIAN will tell you how to clean the blockage in the sink with improvised means.
Earlier we talked about how to wash a down jacket in a typewriter.
Why the sink is clogged – the main reasons

Blockages most often form in the pipes extending from the sink in the bathroom or in the kitchen. Sometimes even a seemingly harmless thing can be the cause. Among the most common reasons, experts identify:
Particles of food waste fall into the “knee” – a curved part of the pipe, which is located immediately below the washbasin. There they settle to the bottom and, accumulating, form a blockage. Eliminating it is simple: either remove part of the pipe and clean it by hand, or use chemicals that soften the debris. It is best, of course, to install a chopper, then the leftover food can be washed off into the sink, and not thrown into the trash can.
Moreover, fat is not only from food of animal origin, but also vegetable oil. By itself, fat creates a sticky residue, which “attracts” the remains of products, which forms a “garbage plug”. The situation is aggravated by cold water, in which the fat solidifies and becomes thicker. The ideal option is not to drain the fat into the sink at all, but to use a separate container for this.
Such a product, in addition to its main function – removing bacteria – also has another, reverse side. Combining with food residues and third-party liquids, soap forms a wet, dense mass, due to which a blockage appears. That is why it is better to wash your hands in the washbasin, and use the sink in the kitchen only for washing dishes.
Hair is the most common cause of clogged bathrooms. The unequivocal and confident recommendation of plumbers is to use a mesh and clean it regularly.

If it so happened that the sink in the kitchen stopped passing water and “pleases” you with an unattractive pool of food waste, it’s time to think about ways to eliminate blockages. There are three in total:
You can use both separately and together.
Chemical method – This is a variant of the fight against blockages, during which various means come into play: acids, alkalis, powders, gels and liquids. They are easy to find at any home improvement store. All you need to do is read the information on the label and follow the instructions strictly. As a rule, such products are poured into the drain hole for 30 minutes, and then washed off with hot water.
IMPORTANT: Never lean over the sink while the cleaning process is in progress, even if the drain makes unusual noises. You will not get any new information from there, and a chemical burn is easy.
mechanical method is the removal of blockages by hand. The first to enter the game is a plunger – a tool that is in every home. You need to fill the sink with 1/3 hot water, and then “drive” the water with a plunger according to the principle of a pump. Do it as vigorously as possible.
But sometimes it happens that the plunger is powerless, then heavy artillery comes to the rescue – a three-meter plumbing cable. It has a handle on one end and a spear-shaped tip on the other. You dip the cable into the sink and push until you get rid of debris.
If your house is old, and the pipes were laid during the reign of Tsar Peas, then you need to use the cable carefully so as not to spoil anything. It is strictly forbidden to resort to the help of a cable for owners of plastic, chrome or brass siphons.
Folk way – the use of various non-food and food products. In fact, some products can compete with chemical agents.
- baking soda (3 tablespoons of soda per 1 cup of vinegar) – pour the solution into the sink, wait 10-15 minutes and rinse with hot water;
- powder (3 tablespoons of powder, 3 tablespoons of soda, 1 cup of vinegar) – pour into the drain, wait 20-30 minutes, pour in plenty of hot water;
- lemon acid (100 gr) – pour into the drain hole, pour 250 ml of boiling water, rinse with hot water after 20 minutes.
Regardless of which means you use to clear blockages, follow the simple but important recommendations below.
