Russia’s goal is to disconnect Ukraine from the ZNPP and blame the Ukrainian army for this, the OP noted.
Mikhail Podolyak, adviser to the head of the President’s Office, notes that Russia is hitting part of the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant, where energy is accumulated that feeds the south of Ukraine.
He wrote about this on his page in Twitter.
“Why would Russia shell itself at the ZNPP?” – ru-propagandists pretend to be clowns. I explain: the Russian Federation is hitting the part of the nuclear power plant, where the energy that feeds the south of Ukraine is accumulated. The goal is to disconnect us from the ZNPP and blame the Ukrainian army for this,” Podolyak stressed.
He added that the UN and the IAEA “continue to carefully study the ceiling.”
Recall that Russian troops occupied the ZNPP in early March, bringing about 500 of their military, tanks and heavy weapons, including explosives, there. NPP workers have to work at gunpoint and under conditions of strong psychological pressure. Also at the station there is a staff of “Rosatom”.
On August 5, the invaders fired at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. In particular, they hit a high-voltage communication line, it was damaged, emergency protection went off at one of the power units.
Also, three “arrivals” were recorded right at the station site near one of the power units where the nuclear reactor is located. The nitrogen-oxygen station and the combined auxiliary building were seriously damaged. Risks of hydrogen leakage and radioactive spraying have been reported, as well as a high fire hazard.
On August 6, the invaders hit the site of the Zaporizhzhya NPP directly next to the spent nuclear fuel storage facility.
On August 11, the invaders again fired at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant and the territories near the nuclear facility.
NSDC Secretary Aleksey Danilov warned that opponents might decide to blow up the ZNPP.
