The head of state calls on the world community to take decisive measures and impose sanctions against the entire nuclear industry in Russia.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky notes that if the world community cannot protect the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, then it loses to Russian terrorists.
The head of state said this in an evening address to Ukrainians, which was published on the social network Facebook.
The head of state stressed that Russia does not stop blackmailing activities at the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant and around it, because provocative shelling of the territory of the nuclear power plant continues. In particular, under the cover of the station, the occupiers are shelling cities and communities nearby, and right at the station’s facilities, the Russian military hide ammunition and equipment.
As Zelensky said, de facto, the nuclear power plant is mined.
“All this clearly indicates that Russia rejects the security requirements of the EU countries and 15 other countries. A total of 42 (countries) that called on Russia to withdraw its forces from the station,” Zelensky said and added that we are talking about Turkey, Georgia, UK, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Canada, USA and other countries.
“If a terrorist state allows itself to completely ignore the demands of the international community, and even more so in such a sensitive topic, then this clearly indicates the need for immediate action. Any radiation incident at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant can be a blow to the countries of the European Union, to Turkey, to Georgia “, and for countries from more remote regions. It all depends only on the direction and strength of the wind. If a catastrophe occurs due to Russia’s actions, the consequences may hit those who are still silent,” Zelensky stressed.
“This issue has already been brought to the highest international level, the UN and the IAEA. Of course, Russian nuclear blackmail is also being discussed between states. There is a corresponding statement by the G7 foreign ministers. They clearly understand that Russia is responsible for this nuclear crisis. But it is necessary move from discussions and calls to new tough sanctions against Russia,” the president said.
In particular, he said that restrictive measures should be introduced against the Russian state nuclear energy corporation Rosatom and the entire nuclear industry of the terrorist state.
“All Russian forces must immediately withdraw from the territory of the plant and neighboring areas without any conditions. The world has been fighting for many decades for independent control over all actions with nuclear materials and radiation safety. If now the world lacks the strength and determination to protect one nuclear plant, then this means that the world is losing to terrorists, succumbing to nuclear blackmail, and this may be a precedent that other terrorists will see. There is still a chance to prevent this loss,” Zelensky stressed.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Russian troops occupied the ZNPP. On the territory of the station there are about 500 Russian military, tanks, heavy weapons and explosives.
Recently, the occupants have repeatedly shelled the territory of the station.
The European Union and more than 40 countries of the world called on Russia to immediately withdraw its troops and personnel from the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant.
