At the meeting, Erdogan and officials will discuss agreements with Russia, the recent volatility on the Istanbul stock exchange and the overall economic situation.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will convene a high-level economic meeting on Friday.
Informs about it Reuters.
The agenda of the meeting included probable Western sanctions, as well as a discussion of the Russian payment system Mir. At the meeting, Erdogan and officials will discuss agreements with Russia, the recent volatility on the Istanbul stock exchange and the overall economic situation.
As UNIAN reported, on September 19, 2022, Turkish banks Is Bankasi and DenizBank refused to service Mir cards at their ATMs and outlets. The decision was made against the backdrop of warnings from the US authorities about the possible imposition of sanctions against organizations that accept the National Card outside the country.
Specialists have already warned the Russians that foreign banks that have previously concluded agreements with the Mir card operator are able to refuse to cooperate with the Russian system due to fears of US sanctions. Russians were also urged to take cash with them when traveling.
It should be noted that the banks of Kazakhstan, Vietnam and Armenia, which previously accepted Mir cards, stopped working with the Russian payment system.
