Mass killings in the Kyiv region – what is known
During the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, one of the first targets of the Russian invaders was the airfield in Gostomel, and the city itself was also under attack. During the fighting on February 27, as a result of an air attack by Russian troops, one of the largest and most powerful aircraft in the world, Ukrainian-made AN-225 Mriya, was burned. It set 240 unbroken world records.
Later, the Russians occupied the city and held captive the inhabitants of Gostomel, who did not have time to leave. The invaders mocked the locals, tortured them and shot those who tried to escape.
On April 2, information appeared from the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine about the final liberation of the entire Kyiv region from Russian invaders. After that, the territory began to be cleared of burned-out equipment, blockages, and excavations of the graves left by the Russians began.
During the 35 days of occupation, about four hundred people went missing in Gostomel – some of the missing are no longer among the living. In total, more than 1,300 civilians killed by Russian troops have already been identified in the Kyiv region, most of whom were shot.
