Shmygal named the main tasks for the national energy sector for the year
According to him, together with the European Union, Ukraine won the battle for light and heat this winter.
The main tasks for this year in the Ukrainian energy sector will be the restoration and protection of energy facilities, the decentralization of the energy system, the further strengthening of integration with the European energy space, and the increase in Ukrainian import and export opportunities.
“Together with the European Union, we won the battle for light and heat. Now we are producing enough electricity to cover consumption, and we are promptly eliminating problems with distribution networks that were damaged by the enemy… The main tasks for this year in the energy sector will be the restoration and protection of energy facilities, the decentralization of the energy system , further strengthening integration with the European energy space, increasing our import-export capabilities,” Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal told the government during the meeting.
According to him, at all stages Ukraine has the support of the European Union.
“Already now, thanks to the European Commission, we are implementing a program to exchange old incandescent lamps for LED lamps. We are also expecting the first batch of solar panels that will contribute to the diversification of our generation. This week, during a meeting with a delegation from the Energy Community Secretariat, we agreed on the participation of the organization in the restoration of Ukrainian energy The signed memorandum provides support for priority projects for the construction and reconstruction of Ukraine’s energy infrastructure,” he said.

Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, as a result of missile and drone attacks, as well as the occupation of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, Ukraine has lost 44% of nuclear generation and three-quarters of the thermal power plant capacity. Since October 2022, the Russians have carried out dozens of missile and drone attacks on the facilities of Ukrenergo’s backbone networks, causing large-scale and complex damage.
Ukraine will produce nuclear fuel that can replace Russian fuel, including on the European market.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the situation with the energy sector on the territory of the state was normalized.
