A recent test of Ukrainian pilots in the United States showed that APU pilots can be trained in less than six months.
Pilots of the Armed Forces of Ukraine “squeeze the maximum” out of the fleet of Soviet aircraft, because Ukraine needs new combat aircraft, said the head of the Air Force Aviation Department, Sergei Golubtsov.
Ukraine needs aircraft that are capable of performing a wider range of tasks than the old technology available to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
“At the moment, we are not talking about a specific type, but rather focusing on technical characteristics. We are considering aircraft that can use the same ammunition and have the same characteristics as, for example, the F-16,” Golubtsov said.
He added that Ukraine has the ability to store and protect its aircraft.
According to Golubtsov, a recent test of Ukrainian pilots in the United States showed that pilots could be trained in less than six months.
Fighters for Ukraine – what is known
Discussions continue about the transfer of new fighters to Ukraine. The prevailing view in the West is that this is a matter of “long-term perspective”. However, the voices of those who are sure that without air superiority it will be difficult for Ukraine to win the war are becoming louder.
At the same time, Poland and Slovakia will provide Ukraine with modernized MiG-29s, with which Ukrainian pilots are already familiar.
