Nuclear weapons in Belarus: France turned to Russia
They are asking the Russian Federation to demonstrate responsibility.

France condemns the intention of Russian President Vladimir Putin to place nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus.
The corresponding statement was published on the website of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “Following Russia’s violation of the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, which led to its disappearance, and Russia’s announcement of the suspension of its participation in START-3 last February, this agreement represents an additional element of the erosion of the international architecture of arms control and strategic stability in Europe,” the statement said.
The Foreign Ministry called on Russia to demonstrate the responsibility expected from a nuclear-weapon state and revise the agreement with Belarus.
Deployment of nuclear weapons in Belarus
As UNIAN reported earlier, Putin said yesterday that he had agreed with Lukashenka on the deployment of tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of Belarus. According to him, the construction of the storage facility for it will be completed on July 1.
The National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine stated that the Kremlin took Belarus as a nuclear hostage.
Poland called this decision a step towards drawing Belarus into the Russian military machine. Berlin accused Moscow of attempting “nuclear intimidation,” and the European Union said it was ready to respond to this with sanctions.
In the meantime, the United States of America stated that they do not yet see any signs of deploying nuclear weapons in Belarus.
