Ukraine’s permanent representative to the UN, Serhiy Kyslytsya, said the Kremlin is deceiving and despising even those it claims to be its strategic partners.

“It took Putin just four days to break another commitment he recently made with the PRC leader in a joint statement signed on March 22, 2023. The document says that “all states possessing nuclear weapons should refrain from deploying nuclear weapons outside their national territories,” the permanent representative said at a meeting of the Security Council.

He drew attention to Beijing’s statement that a nuclear war cannot be won and waged, and the proliferation of nuclear weapons must be prevented. Kislytsya also recalled that Ukraine, at one time, gave up the third nuclear potential in the world, while the Russian Federation uses the nuclear for threats.

Nuclear weapons in Belarus – what is known

On February 21, during a message to the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, President Vladimir Putin announced a temporary suspension of participation in the treaty on measures to further reduce and limit strategic offensive weapons.

Putin recently changed his rhetoric and has already announced that he will deploy tactical nuclear weapons in Belarus. As some experts suggest, the President of the Russian Federation may launch a nuclear strike on Ukraine precisely from the territory of Belarus, so that a retaliatory strike would be delivered there, and not against Russia.

Military expert Alexander Kovalenko said that the international community should prevent the Russian Federation from becoming an uncontrolled proliferation of nuclear weapons.
