Now 23 families remain in the Slavic community, where 34 children are raised from among orphans and deprived of parental care.
Children are forcibly evacuated from Slavyansk, which was recently shelled by the Russian invaders, and guardians who refuse to leave the Donetsk region will be deprived of their duties. This is due to the danger and the approach of the front.
The head of the children’s service of the Slavic city military administration, Elena Sokolova, explained in a commentary to Suspilny that most of the guardian families, family-type orphanages have already left the city. However, now 23 families remain in the Slavic community, where 34 children are raised from among orphans and deprived of parental care.
“In the Donetsk region, mandatory evacuation was approved by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers dated August 2, 2022. Guardians are obliged to evacuate with children outside the Donetsk region to safer regions of Ukraine. Ensuring the safety of the child is the responsibility of guardians and guardianship authorities. We constantly turn to families, explain, that evacuation is free, we provide assistance. In December, we held meetings of the commission and turned to families, gave them a month or two, then constantly reminded them. On March 27, during the shelling of Slavyansk, a minor was wounded. Therefore, we are again taking measures and in a more strict form “, – said Sokolova.
According to her, now the authorities act exclusively according to their authority.
“But we don’t want to resort to such measures, because most children live with relatives, for example, grandparents, or in the family of aunts and uncles. That is why we are again trying to convince these families to leave where the children will be safer,” – she added.
Evacuation of children from front-line cities
In early March 2023, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a mechanism for the forced evacuation of children from active combat zones. Then only Bakhmut fell under this definition.
From the city of Chasov Yar, which is located near Bakhmut, as of March 19, all children were evacuated. This was done by the joint efforts of the administration, the police, and the White Angels.
