At the front, in the fight against Russian invaders, a Ukrainian soldier from the Da Vinci Wolves battalion, Yuriy Yukhimyuk, died. He returned to Ukraine from Germany at the start of a full-scale invasion by the Russian Federation to defend our country.

The fighter died on May 17 while performing a combat mission in Chasovoy Yar, Donetsk region.

“We are sad to announce that the Borata community again suffered a painful loss. On May 17, 2023, a resident of the village of Gorka Polonka, Yukhimyuk Yury Sergeevich, died while performing a combat mission in the town of Chasov Yar, Donetsk region. The fallen Hero was 25 years old. At the beginning of a full-scale military invasion, Yury returned to Ukraine from Germany, where he lived and worked,” Boratinsky community said in a statement.

The defender himself said that he returned from Germany, because he would not forgive himself for not fighting for Ukraine. Prior to the start of a large-scale war, Yukhimuk had no army experience, except for military schools held for young people in the Ukrainian Volunteer Corps.

“On February 24, I called my friends, with whom I had once studied at the DUK for young men, and found out that they were packing their things and leaving for the military registration and enlistment office. I got into my car and drove home to Ukraine. For several days I tried to get into local terrorist defense, but, having learned that they would be at checkpoints around the village, he abandoned this idea,” the patriot said.

He ended up in the Da Vinci Wolves battalion, where he became a gunner.

On March 7, 2023, it became known about the death of the Hero of Ukraine, the commander of the Da Vinci Wolves unit, Dmitry Kotsyubaylo with the call sign Da Vinci. Death overtook him in battles with the Russian invaders near Bakhmut in the Donetsk region. He received a severe wound in the neck.
